At first brush, the biggest difference between the two is the rumored inclusion of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in Apple's tablets for the first time, which is pretty evident in the iPad Air 2
dummy pictured below, and is encircled in the same metallic rim that we saw on the leaked iPhone 6 design pictures today. There are other subtle and not-so-subtle differences, however, like the speaker grill openings, the volume rocker, or the slide switch disappearance. In addition, the iPad Air 2 features an extra mic opening next to the FaceTime camera at the front, and seems to be even thinner than the already extremely svelte iPad Air. If this leak is any true indication, we might be looking into new records in aluminum craftsmanship for Apple's tablet chassis, and new functionalities brought on by the inclusion of the Touch ID authentication method. If the rumored split-screen multitasking comes with iOS 8 for tablets, too, the iPad Air 2 is shaping up to be one pretty worthy successor to the current Apple tablet crop. SOURCE: PhoneArena
